An Association member said a panel of experts comprising environmentalists and experts on lake and others have drafted the DPR. The BDA will be executing the DPR. Earlier records showed that the revival of the lake bed was due a long time ago. Despite that the revival work could not be taken up as the BDA’s master plan showed the entire lake bed as a residential area.

The lake bed has been under dispute for a very long time. However, according to the ruling which favoured the residents stated that 10.2 acres out of the 16.4 acres of the lake bed would be restored. The BDA converted the remaining 6.2 acres into a layout and distributed sites to six MLAs. The case pertaining to the same is still in the court.

Dump yard

However, now the residents are keen on filing a public interest litigation (PIL), demanding the 6.2 acres illegally allotted to the MLAs also to be converted into the lake bed. The lake bed of Mestripalya is now being indiscriminately used as a dumping yard for construction waste and garbage.

The residents want the BDA to work along with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board ( BWSSB) in creating proper channels before the onset of monsoon. As the lake can receive enough rain water that can help in its revival process.

Fight for playground

Also, the association members have decided to file a PIL against the BDA Board for allotting one-third of the land bearing the Site no CA-42 to Ananda Education Trust, where a Kannada medium school is expected to come up. The members allege that the land meant for a playground has been illegally allotted to the trust.
