Four held for betting

 Harish Kumar (34), Manoj (36), Dilip (38), all from Rajajinagar and B S Nanjappa (34) from R T Nagar are the arrested men Tipped off, police raided house number 937, Ideal Home Township, I cross, Rajarajeshwarinagar and recovered Rs 2.79 lakh, a laptop, 20 cellphones, a car, a scooter, a colour TV set and other electronic gadgets used in betting.

Prime suspect Harish Kumar was involved in cricket betting cases in Vyalikaval and Tilaknagar police limits. He was absconding ever since the police launched a search for him. He was in contact with bookies Mukesh Chikna, Suresh, Soni, Mangilal and others. The bookies were in touch with their counterparts in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi and were carrying on betting business for the last six years.

Since the ICC World Cup matches began, they had been allegedly conducting betting to the tune of over Rs two crore. They had also cheated their customers by not paying them if they won, police added.
