<p>According to a reply given by Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy to the lower house, there are 1,327 vacancies of IPS as against the total authorised strength of 4,720 as on January 1, 2011.<br /><br />While the latest data on Indian Administrative Service and Indian Foreign Service officers was unavailable, the Minister said there was 1,155 and 386 vacant posts for IAS and IFS officers respectively as on January last year. There was a gap of 630 IPS officers as against the total authorised strength of 4,013 in 2010, he said.<br /><br />Narayansamy also said that there was no proposal by the government to increase the intake of IAS and IPS proportionate to the present population.</p>
