In a press release, the managing director (MD) of the Union has said that the production unit has an effluent treatment plant and the effluent was being discharged only after treatment as per the specifications of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).
“The treated water is being utilised to grow grass on the Union premises. The purity of water is being tested at regular intervals and hence there is no question of water pollution,” according to the press statement.
The MD has said that the KSPCB has not issued any notice to the Milk Union. The sewerage from Shaktinagar, Gandhinagar and other areas join the drain into which the treated water is being discharged, resulting in foul smell. Repeated requests to the municipal corporation in this connection  have went in vain. The statement also says that the local officers of the KSPCB were not cooperating with the Union.
