About 26 per cent of the biotech revenue of the country, especially through exports, is generated in our State, which is home to five of the top 10 biotech companies in India,” he said<br /><br />Addressing the shortage of talent in the biotech sector, the government has sanctioned 12 BT finishing schools to produce ‘industry-ready persons’ for employment in the sector, the chief minister said.<br /><br />On the occasion, Yeddyurappa gave a call to global investors to avail the benefits extended by the State and set up their firms in tier-2 and 3 cities across Karnataka.<br />Yeddyurappa added that developers of the new knowledge park will meet industry requirements. <br /><br />Four more BT parks<br /><br />Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Biocon India, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said biotechnology was a rapidly growing sector in India and Bangalore was playing a vital role in its growth. <br /><br />“Karnataka accounts for half of the biotech companies in the country and the time is ripe now for close convergence of information technology and biotechnology,” she said.<br /><br />Hailing the State government for the measures taken to boost the BT sector she said the research work at the BT park would not only serve the nation but also the global community.<br /><br />Apart from the park in Bangalore, four more biotech parks –– marine biotech park in Mangalore, agriculture biotech park in Dharwad, veterinary biotech park in Bidar and nutraceutical biotech park in Mysore –– will be coming up soon.<br /><br />The Alexandria Knowledge Park, which will be spread across 56 acres with an office space of 10 lakh sq ft, is being developed by US-based MNC Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc at a cost of Rs 500 crore.<br /><br />The first phase of the park will be complete in 24 months. The land for the park was allotted five years ago to develop a research centre.<br /><br /></p>
