<p>The zero garbage area concept is not merely about removing garbage but beautifying the entire stretch. Under this project, the roads will be freed from encroachment, and footpaths will have tiles like the ones on Brigade Road. The public places will have walls with beautiful paintings that showcase nature’s gift to Karnataka.<br /><br />The roads selected to implement the concept are KG Road, Gubbi Thotappa Road, Station Road, Seshadri Road, Maharani College Road and Palace Road. Sanitary workers will work in three shifts and for each shift, there will be a distinct uniform. Each worker will be responsible for the cleanliness in a stretch of around 100 metres of the area.<br /><br />“Besides, supervisory staff to monitor the cleanliness, senior officers too will be doing the rounds to ensure that the project is implemented successfully,” said Chief Engineer of the BBMP West Zone B T Ramesh. The BBMP will not entertain any roadside vending and catering in this area, he said.<br /><br />“We want to make people feel good when they take these roads. If this model is implemented successfully, it will be extended to other areas as well,” said B T Ramesh. He told Deccan Herald that the programme will take at least a month to start in full swing.<br /><br />The BBMP is educating traders and hoteliers of the area about the garbage disposal system and not to occupy roads to display signboards. The BBMP authorities and MLA of the Gandhinagar constituency Dinesh Gundu Rao held a meeting with the Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce to convince the latter not to paste posters on the walls and use the hoardings instead, for the purpose.<br /><br />On the project, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “It is a very good programme and I am fully involved in it. The BBMP authorities are also carrying out beautification drive.” Works on repairing footpath and clearing encroachment are underway, he added. <br /></p>
