<p>M K Sripathi, chairman of the District Consumer Redressal Forum has regretted that the awareness about the consumer rights was less among the citizens in the district. <br /><br /></p>.<p>“There are several hundres of consumers who received deficient service for their purchases. But, only few lodge complaints with the Consumer court or the consumer forum, he said. <br /><br />He was speaking at the Consumer Day celebration organised at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday. <br /><br />There is a clean law protecting the rights of the consumers. But, the law would be kept in abeyance if the consumer fails to question the deficient service. There was a need for creating more awareness programmes on consumer rights, he opined. <br />The Consumer Day was jointly organised by the district administration, the zilla panchayath, department of food and civil supplies, the weights and measurements department and the consumer forum. <br /><br />In Chamarajnagar <br /><br />The consumer awareness would become a buzzword when the women in each of the households are sensitised on their rights, said MLA Puttarangashetty. <br /><br />He was speaking at the National Consumer Day celebration organised here on Saturday. The women play a key role in purchasing the food products and other daily use products. They are the leaders of a family when it comes to purchase of any goods. <br /><br />Hence, it is important that the women are sensitised in a family, he said and added that consumers should approach the district consumer redressal forum or court for any deficient service. <br /><br />The officers from weights and measurements and food and civil supplies also have a responsibility to ensure that the poor people received their due in the government ration depots or through public distribution system, he said. <br />District consumer forum president Ramanna, deputy commissioner Amaranarayana, ZP vice president, Siddaraju, ZP CEO K Sundar Nayak and others were present. <br /><br />In Mandya<br /><br />The food adulteration and deficient service from the traders can be prevented if the consumer becomes aware of his rights, said deputy commissioner Dr P C Jaffer. <br />He was speaking after inaugurating the National Consumer Day, organised by the district administration, the zilla panchayat and the consumer forum here on Saturday.<br /><br />In his address, the DC asked the consumers to keep vigil during purchases and test for quality and expiry of the products purchased. The public should bring to the notice of the authorities or the consumer forum for any adulterated food products, he said and asked the citizens to question discrepancies in weight. <br /><br />Additional DC P C Jayanna, president of district consumer forum V M Aradhya and others were present. <br /><br /></p>
