<p>Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) members called off their strike on its second day on Tuesday after getting a written assurances on some of their demands from the university officials.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“Most of the demands have been accepted, except few which have technicalities. On the demand for a reading room they said it will be constructed the moment they get space for it. The issue of examination and hostel fee hike is on hold as they will form a committee to review this demand,” said a member.<br /><br />Around 15 students were on strike. According to the protesting students, the officials have asked for three months to come up with a solution for the demands raised by the union members.<br /><br />Their demands included rolling back of examination and hostel fee which was recently hiked, setting up of an inquiry committee into fake admissions, deploying a security guard at DU’s railway reservation counter to ensure that students can use the facility properly, and uniform cycle rickshaw fares in the campus.<br /><br />A senior official said, “As the demands are genuine, everything will be done to find a solution.<br /><br />IGNOU protest<br /><br />Over 200 students from 21 regular courses of IGNOU were on indefinite hunger strike since the last 20 days. According to a student, the vice chancellor had suddenly decided to end all the regular courses in Indira Gandhi National Open University.<br /><br />“It so happened that despite this indefinite hunger strike since so many days, the VC did not come to meet us. So today we closed the main gate to have a word with the VC. He called police and all of us were detained,” said Ashish Sharma, student, IGNOU on Tuesday.<br /><br />According to Sharma, directors from 14 departments also joined their protest. “There was a meeting with the police official and our VC, and he has agreed to revoke his decision and give a written assurance on that,” said Sharma. The students called it an abrupt decision on the VC’s part. However, a senior official from IGNOU said a meeting was held and some concrete decisions have been taken regarding the issue.</p>
