<p>The State government should standardise sign language in Kannada so that there is uniformity in teaching students with speech and hearing impairment, said V S Basavaraj, executive director of Association of People with Disability (APD).<br /><br /></p>.<p>More than 500 people, comprising students suffering from speech and hearing impairment, their parents and teachers participated in the conference organised by the APD on Wednesday. A uniform sign language policy will improve the quality of life of people with the impairment. A MoU has been submitted to the government seeking approval, he said.<br /><br />People with speech and hearing disability have a tough time interacting with others and hence suffer social isolation. Several times they fail to communicate to their own parents. In such a scenario, sign language alone comes to their aid, he said Basavaraj.</p>
