<p>An elderly woman was duped of cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh after a man posing as a Life Insurance Corporation of India agent asked her to give the amount as security to release a fund of over Rs 9 lakh, reportedly deposited by her late husband, police said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Sudershan Kaur, 68, approached Desh Bandhu Gupta Road police station on Saturday, and said an unidentified man has duped her at her home in Karol Bagh. “On Saturday at 8 am, while I was returning home after buying vegetables, I saw a man standing outside my house,” said Kaur, who lives alone.<br /><br />When she approached the man, who seemed to be between 40 and 45 years old, he told her that he wanted to speak to her regarding maturity of an LIC policy of Rs 9.28 lakh bought by her late husband, Harikishan Dua. <br /><br />Kaur then allowed him into her flat. Then the man told her that the policy has matured and he has to give a cheque for the amount, for which he needed a surety of Rs 2 lakh either in cash or jewellery, police said.<br /><br />She gave Rs 17,000 and jewellery worth Rs 1.75 lakh to him. “As I gave him cash and jewellery, he asked for my identity proof, for which I went to another room. I returned to see him nowhere,” she told police. A case has been registered and investigation taken up.</p>
