<p>Municipal Administration Commissioner P Ravi Kumar has directed all deputy commissioners to conduct a survey of mobile towers coming under their jurisdiction and shift such towers which are in violation of the guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunication.<br /><br /></p>.<p>In a recent letter to the Deputy Commissioners, copies of which were released to the media on Monday, Ravi Kumar has stated that the move is to protect human beings, birds and animals from the hazards of mobile tower radiations.<br /><br />Directions to DCs<br /><br />The Deputy Commissioners have been directed to ensure that mobile towers are not installed within the campus of educational institutions and near hospitals. <br /><br />Mobile phone operators have to get the consent of jurisdictional municipality or the respective local body before installing the mobile towers. <br /><br />Consent is must<br /><br />The consent of the site owners is also a must before installing the mobile towers. Mobile towers should preferably be installed in open areas away from residential locations and should not come on top of buildings. Ravi Kumar said he has issued the circular following concerns raised about the hazards of radiations from mobile phone towers voiced by Ecology and Environment Minister Sogadu Shivanna. However, the order is silent on certain crucial issues.</p>
