<p>The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board will ease the procedure for availing new water connections by introducing ‘self assessment’ by applicants. The Board is already accepting applications online.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Under the existing procedure, the applicants have to wait for an inspector from the Board to obtain details such as the dimension of the site, the number of floors in the house for which water connection is sought, etc. It has now been proposed to allow the applicants fill all such details. An official from BWSSB said the Board would sanction connections based on the ‘self assessment’ by the applicants and conduct inspections later. The water supply might be stopped if a consumer is found to have given false declarations. The facility is available both for online and offline applications.<br /><br />More than 9,000 consumers have registered for the online payment facility of the BWSSB, launched a few months ago. The web-based billing and payment system, labelled PAY-EASY, offers a slew of online services to the consumers. To avail the facility, the consumers have to log on to www.bwssb.org and register with their email ID, RR number and mobile phone number. Online payment can be made using Visa, Master, Maestro credit or debit cards issued by any nationalised or private banks. <br /><br />The online facility was created by the revenue billing and collection wing of the BWSSB, with support from National Informatics Centre. BWSSB Chairperson Gaurva Gupta said it was being planned to launch SMS alerts on bills and payments.</p>
