‘Vivek is good with languages’

.
Sandalwood film-makers are always coming up with innovative ways to release the music of their films. In keeping with this tradition, director Roopa Iyer recently launched the music of her film Chandra during a beauty pageant. The event was attended by people from the industry as well as the public. The music was launched with much fanfare; in fact, a few of the tunes from the film were played as the models walked the ramp.
Ever since it was announced, the film has been grabbing a lot of attention. Starring Prem and Shriya Saran in the lead, the film shows the human side of royals. Looking at the photo shoot of the film — with sword fights, kalaripayattu and elaborate costumes — one would assume that it’s a period film. But the director clarifies that the movie is based on today’s generation.
“It’s about the princes and princesses of today. I actually went and met a lot of people from the royal family and realised that they too are as normal as any of us. They too have love stories and live in traditional households. All of this really inspired me to make such a movie,” she adds.
The movie, a bilingual, is currently in its post-production stage, and Roopa says that it was a real pleasure watching Tamil comedian Vivek dub for his character in Kannada.
“I felt that it was important for him to dub for his character. Moreover, he is really good with languages,” she says.
Prem, who attended the film’s audio launch, says that his dream of doing a subject like this has finally come true. He had to train a lot, he admits. “But it was all worth it and I had a fabulous time shooting for the film. Working with Roopa was a different experience altogether,” he says. In fact, Roopa adds that a lot of people had told her not to cast Prem in the lead. “But I was adamant. I wanted someone who has a mature look with a great body. I felt that he could really carry it off and he has not disappointed me,” she adds.
The movie has five songs composed by Gautham and Roopa says that the youngsters will really like the tunes. “We also have a tappanguchi song for which Yash has done a special number,” she adds.
Chandra will hit the screens in February end.
