Police sources here said that Udayakumar, who spearheads the anti-nuclear People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), his associates Pushparayan, Mukilan and four others have been booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code and Explosive Substances Act. The police also suspect that some of those who were killed were activists of the PMANE.

Seven people were killed and two injured when a country-made bomb exploded in a coastal village near the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.

The police said the blasts took place when bombs exploded accidentally while they were being assembled at a house in Idinthakarai village. Five houses were razed under the impact of the blast. Four live bombs were also recovered from the spot.
