The team of https://www.facebook.com/kukkarahallicampaign has submitted a petition to the Deputy Commissioner of Mysore to set-up a water treatment plant to save the Kukkarahalli lake.

.
The petition reads: After a lot of research and analysis, our group (Kukkarahalli Campaign) has come to a conclusion, that a sewage water treatment plant can be set up in the northern part of the lake, near Paduvarhalli. This will serve three purposes: Supplying the lake with clean, fresh and purified water; Since the sewage treatment plant requires aeration, which is possible through fountains, the place can be converted into a recreational area; c) Fresh water pools of purified water can be converted into a bio-diversity park, where different aquatic plants can be grown, spreading awareness about wet land eco-system.

Moreover, dustbins should be placed strategically around the lake. At least, this will ensure that responsible citizens will dispose waste properly. Also, there is a need for functioning toilets so that the woods around the lake are not dirtied.

However, Syed Tanveeruddin, environmental activist, is opposed to the idea of constructing the sewage or water treatment plant within the lake premises.

He has said that he has signed the group’s petition after registering objections against construction by encroaching upon the lake premises.

He has said that construction of a sewage treatment plant within the lake premises will be a greater threat to local areas as well as lake and that it is not the right solution.
