Taking on Arvind Kejriwal head on, the Congress on Monday brought out a booklet on what it calls the “U-turns” by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor during his 49 days as chief minister.
Releasing the eight-page booklet “49 dino ki ultee chaal, Dilli hui behal, U turn Kejriwal”, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken said it portrayed the instances of AAP’s failure to take responsibility. “We are showing a muffler U-turn. From red beacons in government cars to bungalows, there are 16 points of U-turn during their (AAP) 49 days,” said Maken.
Claiming that Kejriwal could have made a “world record” on going back on his words, Maken said the sobriquet of “Muffler U-turn” fits perfectly on the AAP founder.
The Congress also dug out a sworn affidavit of Kejriwal wherein he had declared that he would not travel in a “red beacon” car, he will not accept security, he would not accept a big bungalow as official accommodation among others.
One of the key points was Kejriwal’s quitting office over the Lokpal Bill issue. “He did not consult the people when he had to quit office, though he had sworn to do just that,” Maken said. The booklet also includes Kejriwal’s comment on paid news. “He says media is the reason why we are where we are. Later, (he) says the media has been bought over,” Maken said urging Delhi voters to give these facts a serious thought before exercising their franchise. “It would be dangerous to vote the AAP to power again,” said Maken, flanked by senior leaders P C Chacko, Haroon Yusuf and Arvinder Singh Lovely.
The show by the Congress leaders was also aimed at quelling speculation about differences within the party over Maken leading the election campaign in the capital.“We have always worked as a trio – Amar, Akbar, Arvinder,” Maken said making a pun on popular Hindi film “Amar, Akbar, Anthony” where the protagonists belong to different religions.
