Two months after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that several roads in the City would get a facelift under TenderSURE project, the BBMP released a list of 44 roads.

The list includes Indira Nagar 100 ft road, Brigade Road, Raj Bhavan Road and KG Road from Mysore Bank Circle to Upparpet police station.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, District in-charge and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the State government grants will be utilised to give a new look to these roads. He said names of six more roads, identified for improvement, will be announced soon.

The minister said the roads identified under this project were those with width more than 80 ft and a proposal for upgrading them will be moved to the State government.

Reddy said: “The chief minister had indicated to take up 50 more roads. So, we have identified them and will send the list to him shortly. After getting his nod,  a detailed project and feasibility report will be prepared, which will contain the estimated cost of project.”

Unlike other TenderSURE projects where the footpaths are very wide, the existing width of pavements will be maintained at Brigade Road and Richmond Road. The extra-wide pavements had drawn the chief minister’s criticism.

“The width of the pavement will be balanced this time – neither too wide, nor very narrow. The recent TenderSURE roads have very wide pavements, which the BMTC drivers find it difficult to negotiate,” he said.

Siddaramaiah will also inaugurate a signal-free corridor from Nayandahalli Junction to Central Silk Board Junction and Old Madras Road up to Whitefield. The government will spend Rs 300 crore on these two projects. “Many infrastructure projects will be taken up under the ‘Nagarottana Scheme’ at an estimated cost of Rs 460 crore, which will be carried out by the Public Works Department,” Reddy added.

The minister said the BBMP is working to solve the garbage problem on war footing and many of its processing plants will become operational shortly. The BBMP will also have nodal officers to interact with various civic agencies for better coordination, he added.
