In view of the acute power shortage, Bescom on Thursday announced that there will be load shedding for three hours in the City and for four hours in other urban areas under its jurisdiction for a week with effect from Friday.

On Monday, the State Cabinet had allowed the Energy Department to effect a two-hour load shedding in Bengaluru following severe power shortage.

As the situation is said to have further worsened, Bescom is resorting to three hours of load shedding between 7 am and 9 pm in three installments of one hour each, sources said.

Load shedding details for other areas in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Kolar and Chikkaballapura districts, which are under Bescom jurisdiction, has not been announced.

There will be no power cut for industrial, water supply and essential service feeders.
Load shedding in rural areas will be as follows: Five hours in agricultural feeders, four hours in Niranatara Jyothi feeders and five hours in rural mixed feeders.

The State is currently facing about 3,000 mega watt (MW) of power shortage as against the total requirement of 8,000 MW.

According to Bescom officials, the total power shortage being faced by Bescom is 900 MW. Besides, production from wind energy has also reduced.
