<p>The State government will set up a waste-to-energy garbage disposal unit at Bingipura to dispose nearly three lakh tonnes of accumulated garbage dumped at the landfill site over the years.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking to reporters in the City on Wednesday, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who is also minister incharge of Bengaluru Urban district said the government will also take up comprehensive improvement of Bingipura including cleaning of lakes and drains, asphalting of roads, construction of convention halls, providing Cauvery water supply connection among others.<br /><br /> Reddy said that during his visit to Bingipura on Tuesday he had promised the residents that dumping of waste at the landfill will be completely stopped in two months. <br /><br />Estimate preparation<br />The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials had been asked to prepare an estimate for setting up a waste-to-energy garbage disposal unit in the locality. <br /><br />The proposal will be placed before the State Cabinet for clearance soon, he said. The disposal unit will be pollution free. However, the minister did not set time frame for establishing the disposal unit. <br /><br />The unit will have the capacity to dispose three lakh tonnes of accumulated waste dumped at Bingipura for the last three to four years. He said the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been sanctioned Rs 1.4 crore to provide Cauvery water supply to four villages in the region.<br /><br />Reddy said three of the seven waste processing units at various points in the City have started functioning and the work on remaining would be completed soon.<br /><br />Garbage processed<br />Of the 4,000 tonnes of garbage being generated in BBMP limits, as much as 2,500 tonnes was being processed, the minister said.</p>
