<p>Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, pounded the City for over three hours on Sunday night disrupting normal life. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The sudden downpour also affected processions that were being taken out in several parts of the City to immerse the Ganesha idols.<br /><br />The Indian Meteorological department has forecast thundershowers for the next 24 hours in and around Bengaluru.<br /><br />Five full-grown trees came crashing down in Kengeri Satellite Town, Kengeri market, Jnanabharathi Layout, Basaveshwaranagar and near Vaibhav Cinema on Sanjaynagar Main Road. <br /><br />The BBMP workers, with the help of police, cleared the trees, the Palike officials said.<br />Several houses in low-lying areas were inundated. <br /><br />Water-logging was reported from Prakruthinagar Layout in Yelahanka, 7th Main, 2nd Stage in Indiranagar, Roshan Nagar in DJ Halli, near Ideal Homes on 19th Cross, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Vijayendra Nagar in Nandini Layout and 12th Cross in Bagalgunte off Peenya and other places, BBMP officials said.<br /><br />Pedestrians fall<br />Around 8.30 pm, two pedestrians fell into a water-filled trench dug up by civic authorities for road works near Brigade Road-Residency Road junction. <br /><br />Passersby rescued them immediately from the unfenced trench, eyewitnesses told <br />Deccan Herald. <br /><br />Traffic disrupted<br />Traffic on many arterial roads and junctions was affected for more than an hour. The traffic police deployed additional force at key junctions to regulate the vehicular movement.<br /> <br />The traffic movement was disrupted at Yeshwantpur, Mekhri Circle, Jayamahal, City Market, Hosur Road, Byatarayanapura, JP Nagar, Jayanagar, Okalipuram and surrounding areas.<br /><br />According to the Met department, the City recorded 17.7 mm of rainfall on Sunday evening while Yelahanka received 74 mm of rain. <br /></p>
