Bamboo flowering triggers fear in town

In the meantime, people are also apprehensive that the bamboos are going to die since they have got flowers.

There is also a belief among the people that blooming of bamboo is an indication of a possible drought. Usually, bamboos flower once in 50-60 years. Interestingly, it has become an annual phenomenon in the recent years.

The bamboo rice is used for preparing different types of cuisine in the villages. In fact, the bamboo itself is a multi-utility plant, used for making various agricultural equipment, domestic items, paper, musical instruments, and so on.

Bamboo has a lot of medicinal values. From heart diseases to skin diseases, different parts of bamboo is used for treating different kind of diseases, in both human beings and animals.

If bamboo flowers, it can be presumed that it will make way for sprouting of more number of bamboos, but the apprehension is still there that the number of bamboo species are declining gradually. At least now, the Forest department should take extra measures to preserve and develop the bamboo species.
