Solvent to make Ulsoor Lake smell pleasant

Officials of the two organisations with the help of defence personnel sprayed the solvent on the entire lake. Later, Kiran P Kulkarni of Global Academy of Technology and Chandrashekhar Bale of Bale Com Biotech said the solvent was first added in the lake in November first week and a month later the odour started diminishing.

Gradually, the solvent facilitates the cleaning up of the lake.

Officials said the Maple em.1, an organised acid containing enzymes, antioxidants, metallic chelates and micro-organisms help weaken alkaline properties in the lake.

30,000 litres needed
Kulkarni said in order to make Ulsoor Lake odourless 30,000 litres of Maple em.1 had to be sprayed.

As the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cannot afford to use the solvent consistently for a long period it had to take up the initiative to promote its use.
The em technology using Maple em.1 was tested in Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Mumbai and the results have been found to be encouraging.
