The chief minister, who was in Delhi to meet party president Nitin Gadkari, said the committee would study the profile of the industry, purpose of setting up plant, requirement of land and its proper utilisation.

However, he refused to divulge the other details of the committee. He said details would be announced in the State budget to be presented on March 5.

“The government will ensure that land is sanctioned to genuine firms. If they fail to set up the plant after specific time, the government will take back the land,” he said.

The chief minister’s announcement came in the backdrop of a strong opposition by farmers and opposition parties to the BJP government’s move to acquire large tracts of farmland to create a land bank in all districts to facilitate industries to set up shops.

The State is trying to woo industries by promising readily available land by creating land banks. It claimed that it had already notified 40,000 acres and is in the process of notifying another 40,000 acres in different districts.

“We acquire only barren land in consultation with farmers,” Yeddyurappa said. In the absence of proper land acquisition policy by the Union government, the State has to resort to setting up a land bank to attract industries.

Taking a dig at opposition parties, he said political opponents were indulging in instigating farmers because of jealousy.

To a question on Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises road project, Yeddyurappa said the State government will allot only 20,193 acre land as per the original framework agreement between the company and the government.

The BJP government has not allotted any additional land to the company, he said.
