<div>The fate of many property owners in Bommahalli zone now hangs in balance with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cancelling 590 bogus khatas on Monday.<br /><br />A team comprising BBMP's Taxation and Finance committee, Chairperson M Shivaraju, BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance) V Rashmi, Bommanahalli Joint Commissioner and other officials inspected revenue documents, following complaints alleging large-scale irregularities in the khata documents in Bommanahalli zone, mainly in the Bommanahalli Assembly constituency. <br /><br />It was found that many entries were inserted and corrections were made in the erstwhile Bommanahalli City Municipal Council (CMC) documents.<br /><br />“Wherever there were gaps between two entries, a new entry was inserted. Later `A’ Khata was issued, making the property genuine. Such entries were made to cheat gullible property buyers,” Shivaraju said.<br /><br />Wards where bogus entries were made are Bommanahalli, Bilekahalli, Hongasandra, HSR Layout, Mangammanapalya, Jaraganahalli, Puttenahlli and Arakere.<br /><br />Shivaraju added that instructions were given to cancel bogus entries and identify culprits behind the forgery. “We have seized documents and recorded statements of revenue officer and assistant revenue officer. Special commissioner Rashmi has been entrusted with investigating into the forgery,” he said.<br /><br />Demolition of buildings<br />Cancellation of khatas could also mean demolition of buildings, if any, in addition to criminal cases.<br /><br />An official from Bruhat Bengalruu Mahanagara Palike, said the menace of bogus khata was very much prevalent in the newly added BBMP areas.<br /></div>
