As part of a major cleanliness drive being launched at New Delhi, Nizamuddin and Old Delhi station, 12 state-of-the-art cleaning tools like ride-on-road sweeping machine, walk behind sweeping machine and wet and dry vacuum cleaner are going to be pressed into service.

"We are making efforts to make all stations of Delhi very clean. Apart from stations, we are also making a concerted effort to keep the tracks clear of garbage, Divisional Railway Manager Aswani Lohani said.

He said the result will be visible in the next few months in Delhi and definitely before the Commonwealth Games. Steps are also being undertaken to clean trains with the help of latest cleaning tools at the stations.

Lohani said railways will try to sustain the cleaning drive even after the Games.
Recently Eureka Forbes gave a presentation to railway officials on how to carry out an effective cleaning exercise with the help of latest cleaning equipment.

Small innovative tools like plucker with which a cleaner can pick up anything lying on the floor without bending and single disc scrubbing machine are among the machines be pressed into service to make tracks and stations free of garbage.

"We are going for the latest equipment to clean trains, stations and tracks. While some are to be purchased by us, some are also being outsourced," Lohani said.
Besides, the employees involved in cleaning exercise are also being given new fluorescent jackets to make their presence felt.

There is also a plan to launch an awareness campaign to seek cooperation from the public in keeping railway premises clean.
"We are planning to use FM radio to spread the message among the masses to make the cleaning drive a success," said a senior Northern Railway official.
