<p class="title">Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharam will fly in the Indian Air Force's Su-30 MKI combat jet on January 17 at the Jodhpur airbase.</p>.<p class="bodytext">After her recent stay on board the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, this sortie would be a part of Nirmala's continued effort to gauge and review the operational preparedness and combat capabilities of the armed forces, said an IAF spokesperson.</p>.<p class="bodytext">In 2006, President A P J Abdul Kalam and three years later his successor Pratibha Patil flew in the front line fighter aircraft, creating history.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Last year, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju took a spin in Su-30MKI, which is the mainstay of the IAF.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The IAF will use a two-seater trainer version of the aircraft for Nirmala's flight.</p>.<p class="bodytext">India purchased 272 Su-30 MKI from Russia, out of which 236 jets were delivered to the IAF by Hindustan Aeronautics that manufacture the aircraft under a licence from Russia.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The public sector aviation major targets to complete the entire delivery by 2019-20.</p>
