Privileged Gandhis don't understand poor, says Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a veiled attack on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and party’s star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, saying those “born with a silver spoon” will not know the plight of the poor.

“There is a party that has been rejected elsewhere, feels that they may have a chance in the land of its ancestors, but they do not know about the villages. Those born with a silver spoon will not know such things,” Modi said, addressing an election rally at Fatehpur.

He came down heavily on the Congress-SP alliance and said both of them were “sinking” and might have thought they would survive if they joined hands.

“But people cannot be fooled. They know everything. The SP government spent a huge amount of public money to publicise its works, but people know the truth,” Modi said.

He said UP had lagged behind other states during the successive non-BJP regimes in the past 14 years. “This situation must change. UP needs to be brought on par with the other states,” he added.

The prime minister also referred to the Supreme Court order directing an FIR be registered against state Minister Gayatri Prajapati in a rape case. He said it was a matter of shame that the apex court had to interfere to get an FIR .
