In an unique collaboration between the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Students in Free Enterprise Shri Ram College of Commerce (SIFE-SRCC), a social responsibly project called 'Life on Wheels', which is aimed at empowering the cycle-rickshaw pullers of the area, was unveiled today at the 15th Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

The first rickshaw showcased today was designed by young designer Nida Mahmood who admits it is a very cool idea.

"I have worked on the concept of fluorescent pink and my rickshaw says 'Buri Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala'. My motto through this rickshaw is to make the streets safer for the women. These rickshaws will be seen in North Campus and maybe soon you will see kids asking each other on whose designer's rickshaw are you sitting," Nida told PTI.
The project seeks to develop the concept of free enterprise amongst the cycle rickshaw pullers and will not only provide employment to them but will also give them an opportunity to grow as a strong interdependent community.

"The initiative seeks to provide an opportunity to make a difference in the communities the rickshaw pullers operate in. Initially we will invite 50 young designers to artistically design the cycle rickshaws and slowly we will get notable designers involved in this initiative. These rickshaws are very different than the usual traditional rickshaws available today," Sunil Sethi, President of FDCI said.

"The designed cycle rickshaws have shelter for pullers, provision for newspapers, a water bottle, a dust bin to keep waste, well cushioned seats, and enough space at the back for advertisement to generate revenue," he added. P
