<p>A larger number of students cleared the examination than in 2010 senior secondary school certificate examination with the Chennai region notching up the highest percentage of successful students.<br /><br />The performance of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya students remained the best in the country with 96.89 per cent of them passing the exam.<br /><br />The pass percentage of schools under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan remained at 93.38 followed by government schools (83.98), government-aided schools (79.54) and private schools (45.41). The examination was conducted also at 45 centres abroad, where also girls outperformed boys.<br /><br />Among scheduled castes, 81.84 per cent students cleared their examination, along with 67.6 per cent of scheduled tribes.<br /><br />A total of 81.71 per cent emerged successful in the Class XII examination, against 79.87 in 2010. “This is an increase of 1.84 per cent,” CBSE controller of examinations M C Sharma said. Chennai region scored a pass percentage of 91.32, followed by Delhi (85.45), Ajmer (85.05), Bhubaneshwar (84.07), Panchkula (79.85), Allahabad (73) and Guwahati (70.91).<br /><br />A total of 7,70, 043 candidates wrote the examination, an increase of 9.85 per cent over last year’s number. Out of the total successful students, 83.66 per cent were regular students while 45.41 per cent were private and correspondence course candidates.<br /><br />A total of 10.67 per cent were placed in compartment. The first chance compartmental examination will commence across the country on July 16. Regular candidates are required to route their requests through the heads of institutions. Following the announcement of results, the board has begun the counselling process to help students and parents deal with post-result stress and anxiety.<br /><br />Multiple modes of communication such as telephonic counselling, Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) and CBSE website are being used to reach out to more and more examinees till June 6.<br /><br />"This year 36 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools and few psychologists will participate in tele-counselling to address psychological problems of the students,” a CBSE official said. The counselling will cover Dubai, Doha, Qatar and Kuwait also.<br /></p>
