Indigenous people's strike paralyses life in Nepal

Nepal's Indigenous People's Federation enforced countrywide transport strike to press for timely drafting of the constitution.

Life was paralysed as private and public transport services came to a complete halt and educational institutions remained closed in response to the call by NIPF.

However, markets remained partially opened and factories also operated during the strike.
Minor clashes occurred between the police and the protesters at different places of Kathmandu today.

The agitators also organised demonstrations shouting slogans in favour of their ethnic demands.

Besides the capital city Kathmandu other major parts of the country were also affected by the strike.

Sunday was the final day of their month long agitation programme to press for their demands which includes concluding the peace process at the earliest timely drafting of the constitution and addressing the demands relating to the rights of the indigenous people in the new constitution.
