Sandalwood thieves strike two places

According to police, two cases of sandalwood theft are reported in two police station limits. In first case, the miscreants targeted the house of Rudrappa, a government employee, at second Main Road, Vidyaranyapuram. The house owner was not in the town, when this incident took place.

Alert neighbours got up after hearing the sound of cutting the tree. Upon inquiry, the thieves scolded them. The neighbours immediately informed police about the incident. However, the thieves had escaped with the booty before the arrival of the cops. Vidyaranyapuram Police have registered a case.

In another incident, the thieves have taken away a sandalwood tree grown on a vacant plot on Udayaravi Road in Kuvempunagar. Kuvempunagar Police have registered a case.

Arrested

Police attached to N R Police Station arrested a person from Bangalore and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 1.5 lakh from him.

According to a press release here, the accused, Sayyed Sahid aka Lingaraju of M S Palya, Bangalore, was picked up near N R Mohalla Circle on Saturday. During interrogation, the accused admitted of stealing costly items from a house in Gandhi Nagar. Further questioning revealed that  he had stolen items from the houses of Akhila Nagabhushan at Lalji Nagar of Lakkasandra and Farjan of Sattar Layout, both in Bangalore. The police recovered booty worth Rs 1.5 lakh from him. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal has appreciated the cops for solving the case within hours of the crime.
