The roads strewn with garbage due to heavy business on account of Ganesh Chaturthi and Id-ul-Fitr, the culmination of holy month of Ramzan, the continuous rains and potholes have made it difficult for the pedestrians here.

The place was a witness for brisk sales of fruits, vegetables, plantain stems, mango leaves and other items required for puja rituals. Thousands of citizens visited the place since Friday morning to purchase things and had to park their vehicles at a distance to reach the place.

The left over plantain stems, fruits, vegetables and mango leaves and other perishable items are emanating unbearable stench at the place as there had been no cleaning work taken up at the place as Saturday was a festival day and the next day was Sunday.

Those who had visited the market on Sunday found it difficult to walk on the roads. The steps leading to the lake at the centre of the market was also dumped with wastes.

By Sunday evening the cattle played an important role in reducing the waste to a certain level as they began feeding on the dumped vegetables and fruits.

B M Road in the city also posed a different challenge to the vehicle riders as it neither resembled a road nor a slush. As the district administration had an idea of road widening it had not taken up any works on the road, and with the rains battering the city now and then, it wore a pathetic look.

The road connecting the bypass road from City police station is equally pathetic. Though the city municipal council had taken up repair works, they had just filled the potholes with soil and gravel, which has worn out. The encroachment clearance drive was taken up from this road, which has given way to new potholes. One rain and the whole road becomes unusable, not only for vehicle riders but also to the pedestrians.
