Artificial limbs and medical aid distributed
'Udyog mela' for handicapped soon: DC  
Dr Zakir Husain Memorial Trust and Praxy Fernandes Memorial Trust organised a camp for distribution of aid and appliances for locomotive disabled and hearing impaired among the economically disadvantaged sections of the society at Lions Limb Centre, Wenlock Hospital on Tuesday under the Aid for Disabled Person (ADIP) Scheme of the Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment.
Fund crunch  
The ADIP Scheme provides that travelling cost to a limit of Rs 250 for beneficiary irrespective of number of visits to the centre should be provided and with a certificate from doctor or rehabilitation professional, travel expenses subject to the same limit would be admissible to an attendant/escort accompanying the beneficiary.
Varsity non-teaching staff to protest today  
Mangalore University Non Teaching Employees Association will stage one-day token protest, pressing for the fulfilment of various demands, on August 20.
Trade Unions call for stir  
Various labour organisations such as CITU, AITUC, Dakshina Kannada unit of State Construction Workers Association, Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union, Co-ordinating committee of district Autorickshaw drivers associations, Bunder Labourers Union etc have extended their support to day-long bundh, opposing the anti-people policy of the UPA government and the price escalation.
