There's an air of surety and certainty about Sushama Reddy. The once non-stop chatter box on Channel V, has now decided to let her work do the talking. Anchoring TV shows, own film production, a book... she has a host of things lined up her way.
"I always play to the tune of my own pipe and do what I like doing best," Sushama, who was in the City, for the launch of Dream Hotels, a show on Travel and Living, says nonchalantly about her makeover.
And the once former top model and aspiring Bollywood starlet, is clear on one thing — she nurses no big Bollywood dreams. But the actress in her is ready to play any role that, "gives her something to bite into".
She has signed up for a second film, Chup Chup Ke with Priyadarshan and says she'd prefer working in English/Hinglish and Indian English films rather than in regional films.
Her debut film Chocolate still gets her excited. But the excitement doesn't make her oblivious to Bollywood's warts. "It was a rewarding experience. I salute all those working in the film industry because it takes a great deal of guts to make it big on the silver screen. You just have to watch your back when you're in Bollywood," she says tongue-in-cheek.
Sushama maintains that Bollywood churns out roles for the Indian hero but the women still remain sidelined.
She confesses she strayed into Bollywood all by chance. "It was never on my agenda to act in a film. Bollywood gives one instant fame, name and good returns. Bollywood is good business but my plans were different," she says.
Sushama is now looking at working on TV shows, travel shows and has launched her production house, Sushama Reddy Productions, to make her own feature films. "I hope to make one action thriller and a romantic film soon," she says.
She is also writing a book on environment for children. "It will have a lot of illustrations and will surely be written in an interesting way," she says.
About modelling, she says the industry is as good as "dead”. While the fashion scene is vibrant across the country, a career in modelling is no more glamourous.
"Cricketers and actors are giving models a run for their money," she avers.Work and more work is all that keeps her going.
"I am a workaholic and won't rest until my task is done," she concludes.
