Rains wreak havoc in City

The fourth successive day of heavy rains brought its share of woes as tree fall was reported in several places in the City. Several areas reported power cuts due to the heavy rains...


Rain water gushed inside several houses in Swatantra Yodhara Nagar in Laggere and Annapurneshwari Nagar in Nagarabhavi. The water entered inside more than 10 houses in Papireddypalya. Similar incidents were reported on Kote C Road in Kalasipalya, Nandini Layout and Ramakrishnappa layout water in houses.

Trees crash

Trees came crashing down in Sadashivanagar near Nagasena Shale, Vijaynagar P&T office and Basaveshwarnagar,   Raghavendra Mutt and at BSK second stage. Many vehicles were damaged after a tree fell on them at the Kamakshipalya bus stand. Kamaraj Road, Sankey Road, Mysore Road, Kasturba Road, Lalbagh Road, K G Road, Kumara Park Road and Shivanand Circle road were submerged in rain water.

Power woes

BESCOM sources said that they were experiencing trouble with their feeders at several stations due to overloading causing tripping. Linesmen found it difficult to access areas at AECS Layout in Marathahalli as the access roads were flooded.

Other areas, which experienced power problems were Sanjaynagar, R T Nagar, Kadugondanahalli Police station, Banasawadi, Subedarpalya, Jayanagar 1st block and Nandini Layout. A tree fall was reported in Sadashivnagar which led to sparks flying off an electric pole, though no damage or injuries were reported. In Dasarahalli, a tree fell on an electric pole and damaged the power lines. No injuries were reported.

Repair works were affected by the relentless rain as BESCOM was trying to restore power in the affected areas.
Two buffaloes were killed on the spot after a cowshed collapsed in Chokenahalli near Sampegehalli. Govindraj, the complainant said that a major portion of his cowshed caved in due to overnight showers.

Traffic affected

Traffic flow was affected as branches of some trees fell on roads in Rajajinagar, Basaveshwarnagar, Jayanagar and Mahalakshmi Layout. Vehicles hardly moved on all roads in and around Majestic area. There was flooding on roads in City market, Byatarayanapura, K R Puram and Hosur Road.

The City recorded 36.6 mm rainfall, while Airport 12 mm. Weather in the City would be generally cloudy on Thursday. Rain or thunder showers are likely towards evening or night, said Metereological department sources.
