Chain snatcher targets blind couple, held
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A person was caught within seconds after he snatched a gold chain from a blind woman and tried to flee near busy Shivananda Circle on Wednesday.

Victims: A blind couple. The hero of the day: A stammering youth. Accused: A hale and hearty middle aged man!

A person was caught within seconds after he snatched a gold chain from a blind woman and tried to flee near busy Shivananda Circle on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Shivakumar (36), a resident of Gayathrinagar.

The blind couple –– Shankar and Nirmala, residents of Chikkabanavara, were going to catch a bus at Shivananda Circle.

Shivakumar, a habitual gambler and also an alcoholic, used to visit the Race Course. On Wednesday evening, he came out of the Race Course and began following the couple. The couple found it slightly difficult to reach the bus shelter due to heavy traffic.

When the couple stopped for a while on the way, Shivakumar suddenly laid his hands on Nirmala’s neck, snatched her chain and started running.

Good samaritan

Meanwhile, Santosh, an employee of Mentor System, who was awaiting for the green signal at the junction, noticed the incident. He chased the culprit and succeeded in catching Shivakumar.

However, Shivakumar threw the chain and created a scene saying he didn’t know to whom the chain belonged to. He also threatened Santosh that he was the car driver of MLA Suresh Kumar. In no time, a large number of people gathered and began throwing blows at Shivakumar. Later, they handed him over to the High Grounds police.
