Carmelites have come out with their monthly magazine Myriad which was launched by actress Anu Prabhakar recently

The college students are in for an enlightening experience, thanks to the girls of Mount Carmel College, who launched their monthly magazine Myriad last week. The city mall where the event was held was bustling with the cheer of many excited Carmelites. The girls also presented a fashion show adding to the excitement of the crowd.

Actress Anu Prabhakar, an ex-Carmelite herself graced the occasion with her presence. “As soon as I heard about this launch, I was hoping I would be free to be a part of it,” exclaimed an excited Anu. Filled with nostalgia, she spoke about her college life. “I miss college a lot. I am so proud to be a Carmelite. You all are in wonderful hands,” said she. While Sister Albina, Principal of MCC said, “We, at MCC are capable of thinking differently.”

The magazine is a part of the Entrepreneurship Cell (e-cell) of the college. “We started the e-cell in 2006 to give our students a feel of the outside world,” said Professor Vasanthi Venugopal from the Department of Commerce, “We have always welcomed any kind of support. When Junior Achievement India asked us whether we wanted to start an organisation of our own, we made use of the opportunity. The enthusiastic girls came up with as many as 18 ideas along with their respective business plans.” Two of these plans which seemed most feasible were shortlisted by Vasanthi and Arvind from JA — magazine and chalk production. “In fact, our students visited the chalk industries in Rajajinagar to get the basic industrial training,” added Vasanthi.“Our basic aim is to foster entrepreneurship amongst the youth. Student should learn about the basic parameters required to run an organisation. So we want to bridge the gap between academics and economy,” suggested Arvind, who also works with Wipro. “At present, we have 120 corporate volunteers but any person capable enough to impart knowledge to the students can join in.”  Said Anjana, a final year B Com student and a member of the Creative Team behind Myriad, “It is a youth-based magazine which contains articles on various subjects. The 24-page magazine will be circulated in different colleges from the next month.’’
