More than 30 lakh people have been badly affected in Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria, Purnia and Katihar districts in North Bihar. Large number of flood victims are still stranded on different embankments of canals, roads and railway tracks, rooftops and high lands.
Army and private boatmen are working overtime to evacuate those who are still marooned.
“Don’t call it a flood. It’s a catastrophe,” said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, before leaving for Delhi where he apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the situation and sought maximum help from the Centre.
