<p>US technology giant Apple Inc targets to boost its production from India to 25 per cent of the global output from the current around 5-7 per cent, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Monday.</p>.<p>“They (Apple) are already at about 5 to 7 per cent of their manufacturing in India. If I am not mistaken, they are targeting to go up to 25 per cent of their manufacturing,” Goyal said at B20 Inception Meeting in Gandhinagar. The latest model of iPhone is manufactured Foxconn, Apple’s main iPhone assembler, at its unit located at Sriperumbudur, on the outskirts of Chennai.</p>.<p>Goyal said Apple’s manufacturing facilities in India is a success story. Apple’s main manufacturing base is China. However, the company is now looking to diversify its manufacturing base. India is seen as the biggest beneficiary of this diversification strategy.</p>.<p>“Made in India iPhone, does $1 billion exports in Dec,” Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted on Monday. Apple has become the first company to export smartphones worth over $1 billion in a month.</p>.<p>Apple iPhone manufacturing and exports from India is set to get a boost with its new facility coming up at Hosur near Bengaluru.</p>.<p>Goyal claimed that “India offered the rule of law, inspiring and decisive leadership, transparent government policies, no opaque models and no hidden subsidies.”</p>.<p>He cited the example of a British Company that was manufacturing in UK, supplying to a few countries, and achieving a modest turn over. “A few years ago, this company set up manufacturing in India and due to the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and our ability to launch newer products through design and innovation, the company now supplies products to over 110 countries around the world from India at affordable and competitive prices,” he said.</p>
