A poll of polls hints at a hung assembly with Nitish Kumar-led NDA and Tejashwi Yadav-led Grand Alliance engaging in a close battle for 243 seats in Bihar.

According to a survey by Today’s Chanakya, around 37% of the respondents rated the working of the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as ‘poor’, while 29% rated it as ‘average’ and 21% as ‘good’.

In Bihar, a party or coalition would have to cross 122 for forming the government. Bihar Assembly has 243 seats. A majority of the exit polls have given an edge to Tejashwi Yadav-led Grand Alliance, indicating that the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) government may be out of its way.

If the exit polls turn true, it would end the uninterrupted 15-year rule by Nitish, which also saw a government he formed with RJD and Congress for a brief period before walking out of the alliance to join hands with the saffron party again.

The projections by exit polls also indicate anti-incumbency factor weighing heavily on chief minister Nitish Kumar who is looking for a fourth successive term in the chair.

According to India Today Axis My India, 44% of voters prefer Tejashwi Yadav as the next chief minister of Bihar. Incumbent Nitish Kumar got thumbs up from 35% respondents whereas Chirag Paswan was preferred by just seven per cent.

Projections by exit polls show Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD gaining the maximum number of seats in the state. It further shows the emergence of Tejashwi Yadav as an alternative to incumbent Nitish Kumar.

According to Times Now CVoter, NDA is likely to win 116 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan is projected tolead ahead in the Assembly polls with 120 seats. The LJP is projected to win one seat and others 6.

According to a Times Now-CVoter opinion poll aired on October 25, theNDA is expected to gain 147 seats.Of this, the BJP is likely to bag 77 seats and JD(U) is projected to clinch 63 seats. And theUPA is set to win 87 seats out of 243 seats.

52.80% voter turnout in third phase of Bihar polls till 5 pm

Bihar saw 52.80 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm in the third and final phase.The poll opened at 7 am in the 78 assembly seats spread across 15 districts of north Bihar.

What happened in 2015?

The grand alliance of the JD(U), RJD and the Congress wronged all exit polls in 2015 as it was declared the winner of a shrill and bitterly fought Bihar assembly elections.

The battle in Bihar is between the ruling NDA, with an alliance between the BJP and JD(U), and the Mahagathbandhan, which includes an alliance between the RJD, Congress, Left and others.The RJD is contesting in 144 seats, Congress in 70, and CPI(ML) in 19. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), which was part of the NDA in 2015, has decided to go it alone. It is contesting on 137 seats.

With the third and the final leg of polling concluding today, the battle for Bihar has reached its final stage.

An estimated 46 per cent of the total 2.35 crore electors exercised their franchise till 3 pm in the 78 assembly seats of Bihar where polling is underway in the third and final phase of elections on Saturday.
