The Congress roared to a thumping win in Karnataka bagging 136 seats in the Assembly polls, as heavy anti-incumbency and perceived voter anger against the BJP, whose tumultuous reign was marred by a series of controversies and allegations of widespread corruption, cost it dearly. The BJP managed to grab 66 seats with a neck to neck fight over the Jayangar Assembly seat. Check the latest constituency-wise result highlights right here, with DH.

A policeman hit Prajavani photojournalist Ranju P as he tried to take photos of the BJP's celebrations outside SSMRV PU College in Jayanagar on Saturday.Ranju climbed a police vehicle to get the best shots when the unidentified policeman caned him on the knee and snatched his camera.

The assault prompted a flash protest by journalists. The cop was eventually forced to retreat and return the camera.

"I was only doing my job. Why did he hit me and snatch my camera," Ranju said as struggled with pain.

Security tightened around SSMRV PU College in Jayanagar following the controversy of the Jayanagar Assembly constituency. The controversy surfaced after the recounting of the constituency late in the evening.
According to police, a coy of Central Armed Police Force, Garuda force, two battalion of Karnataka State Reseve Police and City Armed Reserve (CAR) have been deployed. Senior officials including M Chandrashekar, additional commissioner of police (East) and SD Sharanappa, joint commissioner of police (Crime) have camped along with the DCPs in the counting centre to prevent untoward incidents. The police have also deployed a water jet to use it on the crowd if they resume violence.

Infighting as well as the Kalyana Rajya Pragati Paksha (KRPP) floated by mining baron Janardhan Reddy have caused a severe jolt to the ruling BJP in the Kalyana Karnataka region, the home turf of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. The Congress is set to win in 27 seats out of 41. The party had won in 20 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections. BJP had won 17 and JD(S) 4 seats in the previous polls.
