Counting of votes in the Meghalaya Assembly elections 2023 drew to a close on Thursday evening, with the NPP emerging as the largest party in the state, despite missing out on the majority mark.
While the NPP bagged 26 seats, the UDP won in 11.
The TMC and Congress won 5 seats each, while the Voice of the People Party (VPP) bagged 4.
The BJP, PDF, and HSPDP won 2 seats each, while two Independent candidates bagged two constituencies.
Meghalaya CM and NPP chief Conrad Sangma decisively defeated BJP's Bernard Marak in the South Tura, winning the seat by a margin of 5,016 votes, the ECI declared on Thursday evening.
NPP's Santa Mary Shylla defeated Congress state chief Vincent Pala by 1,828 votes in the Sutnga Saipung seat, the ECI announced on Thursday evening.
Mukul Sangma, who contested from Songsak on a TMC ticket, defeated the NPP's Nihim D Shira by 372 votes, the ECI declared on Thursday evening.
