<p>In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman brutally killed her mother by chopping her body using an electric marble cutter, sickle, and knife while keeping the pieces at their home at Lalbaug in Mumbai for months.</p>.<p>The incident sent shock waves in the financial capital of Mumbai. </p>.<p>The deceased was identified as Veena Prakash Jain, a 55-year-old woman. </p>.<p>The suspect Rimple Prakash Jain (24) has been arrested by the Kalachowki police station. </p>.<p><strong>Read | <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/city/bengaluru-crime/serial-killings-in-bengaluru-3-women-s-bodies-at-3-railway-stations-in-3-months-1200246.html" target="_blank">Serial killings in Bengaluru: 3 women’s bodies at 3 railway stations in 3 months</a></strong></p>.<p>The immediate cause of the murder is not yet known, however, the police are investigating it from various angles including accounting for mental health issues of the suspect and the reported bitter relationship between the suspect and the victim. </p>.<p>The mother and duo had shifted from Virar in the neighbouring Palghar district more than a decade ago and were staying at Room No 22, Ibrahim Kasam Chawl, first floor, Gas Company Lane at Lalbaug. </p>.<p>The mother-daughter duo were supported by Veena’s brother Suresh Phulchand Porwal (60).</p>.<p>“The body of a woman has been found, which we have sent for post-mortem. The lady’s daughter has been arrested and being questioned,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe told reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday. </p>.<p>The Kalachowki police station filed the complaint on Tuesday night after Porwal lodged a complaint following refusal by Rimple to let him meet his sister. </p>.<p>When the police team reached there she was reluctant to allow them to enter but the stench from the room led to suspicion. Thereafter, the police carried out a search of the room. </p>.<p>To its shock, the police team recovered small pieces of Veena’s body, wrapped in plastic bags and stored in the cupboard and other places. “The body parts were highly decomposed and there were maggots and insects crawling around the place” police officials said. </p>.<p>The incident, investigators suspect, happened on November 26, 2022.</p>.<p>The Mumbai police immediately summoned a forensic team which examined the room and collected samples. </p>.<p>After the initial questioning of Rimple, police have recovered the electric marble cutter, a sickle, and a knife.</p>.<p>For the past over three months, Porwal had made several attempts to meet his younger sister as each time Rimple made excuses like ‘she had gone out’ or ‘she is resting’.</p>.<p>An initial probe says that the suspect appears to be educated and had claimed that her mother had died after a fall. Investigation in the case is under way.</p>
