India’s celebration of 75 years of independence from British rule has been nothing but grand. The government started a 75-week countdown from March 12, 2021, celebrating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark this day.

Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Tricolour rallies held in several cities in MP

'Tiranga' rallies were held in several parts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday on the eve of Independence Day. While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra flagged off a rally of police personnel, including women, state Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang held a rally in Bhopal's Upper Lake with 75 boats adorned with the Tricolour.

'Naga national flag' hoisted to celebrate 'Naga I-Day'

The Naga tribals hoisted the "Naga national flag" and organised programmes in Nagaland and at many villages in the Naga dominated areas of Manipur on Sunday to celebrate the "Naga Independence Day".

Several programmes were held on the occasion in different places of Nagaland while besides organising small programmes in many villages of the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur, the Naga flags were hoisted in the houses, shops and various other establishments.

A considerable number of Naga tribals inhabited in many of the 16 hill districts of Manipur while there are Kuki tribals in these hill districts, bordering Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram and Myanmar.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: ITBP to scale 75 peaks, undertake 75 day-long patrol along LAC

Personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will scale 75 peaks on Independence Day and complete a 75-day-long 'relay long range patrol' along the LAC with China to mark the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a senior officer said Sunday.

The mountain expedition named 'Amritarohan' will take place at various locations along the eastern front on August 15, ITBP spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey told PTI.

The peaks to be climbed are located in the vicinity of 75 ITBP border posts spread along the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC), he said.

30 CBI sleuths get police medals on Independence Day

Central Bureau of Investigation officers probing the coal scam case and tasked with internal vigilance are among the 30 sleuths of the premier agency awarded police medals on the 76th Independence Day, officials said Sunday.

The awards were announced on the eve of Independence Day.

Six officers received the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) while 24 were honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS), the CBI said in a statement.

Additional SP Alok Kumar, who is part of the Special Unit of Mumbai tasked with preventing corruption within the agency, received the PPMDS, it said.

Even as the country gears up to celebrate its 75th Independence Day on Monday, actor Rajinikanth has urged people to honour and salute freedom fighters, martyrs and leaders by having their children hoist the national flag outside their homes, offices and work places.
Taking to Twitter, Rajinikanth both posted a video and a post, which urged people to fly the National flag outside their homes and offices as a mark of respect to freedom fighters and as an expression of unity.
His post read: "This is the 75th year of Independence for India, our motherland. Mahatma Gandhi temple in Telangana sees an increase in number of 'devotees'

As patriotic fervour grips the country on the eve of its 75th year of independence, there has been a marked increase in the footfalls to a temple for Mahatma Gandhi in a village in this district in Telangana, with the villagers flocking to have his 'darshan' and seek blessings. For many people around Chityal town in Telangana, about 75 KM from Hyderabad, visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Temple is becoming a sentiment. The first-of-its-kind temple at Pedda Kaparthy village near Chityal town in the district has been drawing attention from even far off places, says PV Krishna Rao, Secretary of the Mahatma Gandhi Charitable Trust which maintains the shrine. Rao says the temple which usually has visitors numbering 60-70 on a normal day is now witnessing increased flow of devotees in the range of around 350 after the Telangana government and the Centre's initiatives to celebrate the 75th year of independence.

A wrong, righted: An Irula tribal woman, Saraswathi Vijayan who is the president of Velukkattai Panchayat in Krishnagiri district, will hoist the national flag for the first time since she assumed office two years ago.

The Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front (TNUEF) conducted a recent survey in 24 districts of the state and found that several Panchayat presidents of the Dalit community were not allowed to hoist the national flag and many were not even allowed a seat in office.

It may be noted that after the survey report was carried extensively by the media, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, V. Irai Anbu ordered all the district collectors to prevent caste discrimination while hoisting the national flag during the Independence day celebrations.

Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Sunday said while celebrating independence, there was also a need to pay homage to the people who went through the pain of partition.

He was speaking after inaugurating an exhibition titled 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' in Mapusa town near the state capital Panaji.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday flagged off a motorbike rally from state capital Imphal to Mao town on the Nagaland border to mark the 75 years of India's Independence.

The rally, organised by the Home Department and the state police, will cover a distance of 105 km.
