Heavy rain triggered waterlogging and flood-like situations in several parts of the country. IMD issued an orange alert for Mumbai till July 14.

As the catchment areas of Cauvery river in neighbouring Karnataka are receiving heavy rains, the water level in Mettur dam in Salem district breached the 105 feet mark on Wednesday.

More than 10 deaths were reported in the last 36 hours across Maharashtra which continued to be pounded by heavy rains leading to disruption of normal life in many places in the hinterland.

Asrainscontinue to wreak havoc in different parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said 32 people have lost their lives so far, and Rs 500 crore will be released immediately to restore the basic infrastructure that got damaged. (PTI)

Telangana extends school holidays till July 16 due to rains

The Telangana government on Wednesday extended holidays for all educational institutions in the state till July 16 in view of continuing heavyrains.

The government had earlier declared holidays for three days due to forecasts of heavyrainsacross the state and the schools were scheduled to re-open on Thursday. However, with therainscontinuing in many parts of the state, the authorities decided to extend the holidays by three more days. (IANS)

Incessant rains in Mumbai; flooding in low-lying areas, road traffic hit

Incessant showers lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Wednesday morning, leading to flooding in many low-lying areas and traffic snarls on roads, officials said.

The local trains, considered as the lifeline of the metropolis, were largely unaffected on the Central Railway and Western Railway routes.

14 people killed after heavy rains in south Gujarat & Saurashtra; over 31,000 evacuated so far

Parts of south Gujarat and Kutch-Saurashtra regions received very heavy showers in last 24 hours leaving 14 people dead, while over 31,000 were evacuated so far this rainy season, officials said on Wednesday. Three national highways in Kutch, Navsari and Dang districts were blocked due to damage caused by rains. Fifty one state highways and over 400 panchayat roads have also been damaged, state Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi told reporters.(PTI)

Karnataka CM holds meeting with officials to assess situation

As rains continue to wreak havoc in different parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday held a meeting with Deputy Commissioners of coastal districts, which have been worst affected, in Udupi to assess the situation and to take stock of the rescue and relief operations. Rains have continued in several parts of Malnad and coastal Karnataka causing flood like situation, also there have been several incidents of land-slide and sea-erosion. Rivers in the region have swelled, several dams have reached the brim and there is severe waterlogging in agriculture fields and low-lying areas causing damages to crops and properties.(PTI)

IMD forecasts intense showers in many parts of Maharashtra over next 3 to 4 hours

The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday morning issued a nowcast warning for Maharashtra's Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur districts, predicting moderate to intense rainfall at isolated places in next 3 to 4 hours. A nowcast is a prediction made by analysis of data currently available. The IMD has also issued a similar warning for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, Osmanabad, Aurangabad, Beed and Nashik districts.

Intense to very intense rainfall is expected in Mumbai, Kalyan, Thane and Navi Mumbai till 1 pm today, says IMD.

8 died in rain-related incident in Maharashtra in last 24 hours

At least eight persons died in the last 24 hours as heavy rains continue to pound Maharashtra.

In Nagpur district, six people, who were travelling in an SUV were swept away when they were then crossing a small bridge over the Brahmanmari Nullah along the Nanda Gomukh-Chhatarpur Road near Kelvad.Three bodies have been recovered.

The monsoon-related deaths in the state have shot to 84 this year, according to the Disaster Management Unit of Maharashtra.

Rains trigger landslide in Palghar; 2 rescued, 3 feared trapped

Three persons were feared trapped after a landslide occurred on Wednesday in Vasai town of Maharashtra's Palghar district which has been witnessing heavy rains, officials said.

The debris fell on a house at Wagrapada in Valiv area of Vasai around 6.30 am, according to police. Local firemen rescued a woman and her daughter from the house and they were admitted to hospital, they said.
