<p>Bengaluru: A small portion of the service road on the Outer Ring Road caved in in Karthik Nagar, near Marathahalli, on Thursday morning, officials said. </p><p>Traffic police rerouted vehicles onto the main carriageway. Police sources said the incident was caused by heavy rain on Wednesday night, combined with ongoing metro pillar construction. </p><p>"The road caved in near the metro work at Karthik Nagar. Traffic policemen stationed there noticed the issue and informed metro officials," said MN Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic). </p>.Metro work on ORR: Bengaluru Traffic Police use barricades to simulate potential congestion.<p>No injuries were reported, and the collapse created a small hole, no larger than one foot in diameter, with cracks extending in both directions. The area was cordoned off with plastic cones, and Namma Metro engineers repaired the damage. </p><p>A senior BMRCL official in charge of the Silk Board Junction-KR Pura metro line (Phase 2A) said a portion of the soil collapsed right to the excavation site. </p><p>"It wasn't a sinkhole. There was a small cavity because the excavation was a bit deeper. It was filled subsequently," the official told <em>DH</em>.</p>.<p><strong>Sinkhole in Shantinagar</strong> </p><p>In a related incident, a large sinkhole appeared on the Shantinagar Double Road. </p><p>Since the road was recently asphalted, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath stated that he had sought a technical report on the damage. "If the road caved in due to poor workmanship, we would take appropriate action against the responsible engineer," he added. </p>
