Homemaker duped of Rs 59K on pretext of part-time job

A homemaker in Kadugodi was duped of Rs 59,000 by fraudsters on the pretext of part-time job offers in June this year.

The police said the victim was promised a salary between 15,000 and Rs 40,000 per month.

The victim, Saraswathi, wife of Swaroop Kumar, a private firm employee, read an ad on a national newspaper offering part-time jobs with work from home option across India.

Saraswathi contacted the person who identified himself as Sunil Sharma asking her to pay Rs 1,150 as a registration fee to be deposited in a nationalised bank.

The suspect then called Saraswathi confirming that the payment was done and told her to further pay Rs 59,200 for insurance and laptop that will be issued in her name.

Saraswathi managed to arrange the money and paid it in the last week of June.

Saraswathi realised that she was conned after she called Sharma to get an update on the job. Sharma said the recruitment would get delayed and she would be intimated next month. Suspecting something amiss, Saraswathi asked for the refund to which Sharma asked her to pay Rs 40,000 so that he could issue her a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.

After repeated requests for the refund failed, she along with her husband approached the Kadugodi police and lodged a complaint on Monday.

The police have registered a case and are investigating further.
