Brahmakalashabhisheka of Kadri Temple from May 2

The Brahmakalashabhisheka, Mahadandarudrabhisheka and Maharudrayaga of the Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple will be organised from May 2 to 11.

Temple Committee chairman A J Shetty told reporters on the temple premises that various religious rituals and cultural programmes will be held as a part of the Brahmakalashabhisheka.

“As a part of the ritual, the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, situated on the temple premises, has been rebuilt. A separate hall to conduct ‘Shani Puje’ and ‘Satyanarayana Puje’ too was constructed. Granite slabs have been laid on the premises Kadri Manjunatha Temple and a mantapa was built in front of the temple,” he explained.

The rituals will be held in the presence of the Kadri Mathadeesha Sri Raja Sandhyanath and Tanti Brahmasri Vittaladas, said the chairman.

The last Mahadandarudrabhisheka and Brahmakalashabhisheka were performed in 2006, he added.

Explaining the Mahadandarudrabhisheka, Tantri Brahmasri Vittaldas said that the water from Gomukha Teertha (situated at an elevated location behind the temple) is made to splash on the presiding deity.

“As part of the rituals, 121 priests will conduct the Mahadandarudrabhisheka and Shatarudrabhisheka. Homa will be carried out on 11 homa kunda (sacred fire). The Mahadandarudrabhisheka ritual is held only at the Kadri Temple in the country,” he explained.

On the concluding day on May 11, the Nemotsava of Malaraya, Vaidyanatha and Pilichamundi Daiva will be held.

Ganesh Shetty, president of the Horekanike Samithi, said that the Horekanike will be collected at various branches opened for the purpose in different parts of the district.

“A Horekanike office has been opened at the Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple. All the Horekanike vehicles will assemble at the Nehru Maidan on May 3 and will be taken out in a procession to the Kadri Temple,” he added.
