<p>Work on upgrading the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway into a 10-lane expressway will be launched on January 8, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced on Saturday.</p>.<p>Kumaraswamy, who held a meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Energy, PWD and Revenue departments, said all hurdles in widening the highway had been cleared and the ground-breaking ceremony would be held on December 8.</p>.<p>NHAI has divided the project into two packages – Bengaluru to Nidagatta (56 km) and Nidagatta to Mysuru (96.01 km).</p>.<p>The chief minister said 3,348 km of national highways in Chitradurga, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Ramanagar and Tumakuru districts were being upgraded into four and six-lane roads.</p>.<p>He directed the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) officials to expedite the process of obtaining required clearances for acquisition of revenue and forest at the earliest. Kumaraswamy said 80% of land acquisition had been completed.</p>.<p>Kumaraswamy said work on upgrading the Tumakuru-Shivamogga, Byrapura- Challakere, Ballari-Byrapura and Challakere-Hiriyuru roads would be taken up on a warfooting.</p>
