<p class="title">Kaup was declared a taluk just a year ago but has already seen transfer of two tahsildars.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Currently, Udupi Tahsildar has been made the In-charge Tahsildar of Kaup. This is the third time in a span of 12 months that the Udupi tahsildar had been made the In-charge Tahsildar of Kaup.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kaup was declared a taluk by including Kaup hobli and 30 villages surrounding it. As per the 2011 census, the taluk has a population of 1,41,098. Kaup hobli has 16 gram panchayats and 1 Town Municipal Council under its jurisdiction. </p>.<p class="bodytext">When Kaup taluk was inaugurated on February 14, 2018, Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar served as the In-charge Tahsildar.</p>.<p class="bodytext">From March 2018 till May, John Prakash Rodrigues served as the Tahsildar. Following Rodrigues transfer, Kurdekar was once again entrusted the responsibility of in-charge tahsildar. From July to September, Gurusiddaiah, a probationary, served as Tahsildar. After the transfer of Gurusiddaiah, once again Kurdekar was entrusted with additional charge of Kaup along with Udupi.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The taluk office is responsible for works related to issuing caste and income certificate, ration card, no objection certificate, relief under natural calamity, court cases, pension scheme, Akrama-Sakrama under Form No 57, 94C, 94CC, land conversion, land sanctioning, earmarking of land for various government programmes, land acquisition, copies of PTCL endorsement and others.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kaup TMC member Anil Kumar said, “The problems have increased after Kaup was declared a taluk. In the past, the works could be easily done at Udupi taluk office. Now, without the tahsildar, we have to shuttle between Kaup and Udupi.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kumar said, “Kaup taluk has not received any basic infrastructure facility. Kaup has been declared a taluk for the sake of it. A full-fledged taluk can be created after filling the sanctioned posts. Several government departments are yet to be set up in the taluk.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">Kaup In-charge Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar said, ‘’Santhosh Kumar, who is serving at Sullia, has been appointed as Tahsildar of Kaup. Full-fledged works in all the 49 new taluks have not commenced yet. However, several staff members have been recruited to taluk office in Kaup.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">The posts vacant in the taluk office are--two tahsildar (grade 1, grade 2), 1 Deputy Tahsildar, 2 First grade Assistants, 3 second division assistants, 1 Group D worker, 1 driver, 5 revenue division officers.</p>
